About Our Worship Service

Why does the worship service look like it does?  HPC seeks to glorify God by worshipping Him according to His will as revealed in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.  Consequently, we only bring to God that which He has commanded in  the Scriptures, and we focus on the Ordinary Means of Grace. We believe that God serves His people through His Word, Sacraments, and Prayer.

Why do you sing the songs that you do?  It is difficult to pin down the style of our music. We sing songs and tunes that are both hundreds of years old and brand new. Sometimes we take old hymns and put them to new music, and other  times we sing the Scriptures themselves. We do this to remind each other of the vastness of Christ's church. We sing older hymns so that those young in the faith may realize the great historical community of which they are a part. At the same time, we worship with newer hymns and songs reminding the stalwarts of the faith that God is still growing His Church, adding in new faces and new voices. By this practice we hope to have a small foretaste of the great multiethnic, poly-symphonic, trans-national body of Christ that will be the New Jerusalem.
